Tuesday 24th December, 2019.
It was not a coincidence that the wife of the Chairman, Odi-olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA , Alhaja Mrs Muheebat Ajala, deemed it necessary to host widows and the aged at Odi-olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA yesterday. Mrs Ajala has always been a woman of substance and humility.
As early as 7 am yesterday, the capacious hall of Odi-olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA was filled with widows and aged people.
At the brief ceremony, her husband, Hon Rasaq Olusola Ajala, said he was playing a supporting role as the idea was that of his wife.
He said: "My wife had always wanted to do this and I have no other choice than to support her." He maintained that it was part of his administration's intervention programmes for our people in the LCDA, and to support the less privileged.
He added that the programme was the maiden one and it was going to be an annual event. It was designed to make the people happy during this festive period.
Everyone was excited when he announced that each of them would be given a chicken at the event with some cash to go with it.
The host, Alhaja Mrs Muheebat Ajala, expressed her delight to everyone at the event, especially her husband and his management team for supporting her, stressing that if not for them, the programme would not have come to reality.
She said, "The essence of Christmas is to show love. And that was what triggered the decision to make all widows and the aged people within Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA happy."
"Irrespective of your religion - Muslim or Christian - there is need for everyone to be happy because it was not only the Muslims or Christians that voted for my husband" she added.
She said the programme would be an annual event as this is the maiden edition.
Responding on how people were selected, she said "Politics is local and people were selected from ward and streets within the LCDA.
The gathering was full of praises for the Chairperson of Odi-olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA Mrs Bisola Fadairo who was one of the beneficiaries said she was elated to get the gifts. She prayed for the initiators.
Another beneficiary, Ayoka Solola thanked the Chairperson and her husband. She prayed that happiness will not elude them.
