The Executive Chairman, Odi-olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA Hon Rasaq Olusola Ajala and his team yesterday paid a condolence visit to the family of the first military Governor of Lagos state Late Brigadier General Mobolaji Johnson in his home in Ilupeju.
One of the Son of the deceased Mr Seyi Johnson received the team.
After signing the condolence register, the chairman addressed the journalists who accosted him after the visit.
In his response to various questions on what he can say about the former governor, Hon Ajala said:"The former governor whom he called "Baba" created the path everyone is now walking on today in the state. He said: "There is no way we can talk about Lagos state without recourse to the great roll Baba played up to his last day on this mother earth.
"Despite the height he was able to attained during his life with his affluent and influence, he decided to live among his people even though he could have lived in the highbrows areas such as Ikoyi, Lekki and all the rest. This shows his level of humility and love for his people. This is the reason why, as local government, we have decided to join his immediate family to condole with them because Baba did not belong to them alone but to the larger Community of Odi-olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, he said.
He continued:" Though it was a glorious exit but it will be extremely difficult to step into the Big shoe he left behind.
On what the current leaders need to learn from him, Hon Ajala said:"Leaders at various levels of governance should avail themselves documents written by deceased or written on his behalf on how he was able to excel as number one citizen during his time.
He further said:"All his successors did well. Lagos state project is a work in progress, we have not gotten to our destination, not been able to reposition the state to its rightful position in the global map but if we can follow Baba and his successors steps, we will be able to get there.
Responding, one of the Sons of deceased, Mr Seyi Johnson thanked the chairman and his team for the visit. He said:"Baba lived a fulfilled life, though would have wished he lived longer but death is inevitable. Talking about his life, he said:"Like Baba Jakande after they left office, Baba chose to live among his people. He had the capacity to live in the highbrows areas but because of his humbleness decided to live among his people. He always participated in the Community activities.
He recalled that few houses were where they are today when he moved there. He thanked God and government of Odiolowo/Ojuwoye for the new development the area have witnessed so far. He promised to inform the Council on the burial arrangement.
